In 1989, I incorporated SCRIP-SAFE® to address concerns posed by several leading registrars: Ken Bogard, Miami University, Tom Bilger, Ball State University, Luke Gunter, University of South Carolina, Annette Satterfield, Georgia Tech, Roland Cote and Jerry Pugh from Indiana University. They and their colleagues wanted transcripts to become more difficult to alter and forgeries easier to detect. SCRIP-SAFE® quickly became the first and only company able to dedicate its financial resources toward solving these problems and working with the profession to develop a complete line of secure transcripts.
The rest they say is history.
Time to Give Back: With over 20 years experience in the security field, I have seen more than my fair share of bogus transcripts and heard some of the funniest stories about attempts to pass altered or bogus transcripts off as official. I might note that those stories will gradually diminish because electronic transcript delivery security virtually eliminates the ability of those nefarious scoundrels to access or alter their records.
However, before registrars decide to make the move from paper to electronic delivery, there are several important steps to take and questions to ask. The purpose of my blog is to provide registrars with a number of non-commercial observations in this and other areas based on my years in the profession. While my heart and soul are with SCRIP-SAFE, there are a number of reputable suppliers with what each considers being the best solution for you. My goal is to explore certain issues and hopefully improve your ability to examine the options provided by suppliers---resulting in the best decision for your campus.
If you have any questions or comments to share with the profession, please feel free to use this blog as one of the information tools designed to get answers before you jump into the electronic transcript delivery world or other records management endeavors.
